Loomis is knocked unconscious by Dr. Bonham to keep Loomis from shooting Wynn. Wynn and Bonham then meet up with a cult member and several doctors who are preparing to work on a scientific breakthrough experiment. The doctors are surprised at how unique the testing of the DNA sample went they worked on. Wynn has apparently been interested in exploiting Michael's evil for a medical cure. Nobody in the operating room notices when Michael enters and he seemingly kills everyone in the room.

Danny and Steven are in the next door room, just sitting there, and are saved by Tommy and Kara. Later, Tommy and Kara run into a high-tech lab room where Kara notices a tank of preserved fetuses; apparently the failures Wynn told Loomis about in regards to creating a child to harness the power of Thorn through DNA testing. I wanted also to distance myself from the plastic shiny look of the hockey mask of Friday the 13th. When watched back-to-back, one of the biggest and earliest giveaways that Halloween 5 was made by a different team than Halloween 4 is the treatment of Rachel. This proved to be a point of contention between Ellie Cornell who played Rachel and the director.

Cornell did not, however, expect Rachel to die so soon and so gruesomely. The script called for Michael to shove a pair of scissors down her throat, but Cornell put her foot down. This was too undignified an end for her character, or so she argued. So, they compromised by having Michael stab her in the chest. Plus, they offered her a little more money. The cast of Halloween 5 has several of those. Most notably, when Michael is mowing everyone down in the woods the cast was entirely reliant on the restraint and attentiveness of Don Shanks, the man behind the wheel and the Michael Myers mask.

So, that really was a car chasing down actors at night in the foggy woods. As seen in on-set footage featured in 25 Years of Terror, during one take when she was supposed to look back at the car so the camera could get her scared reaction she tripped on her cape and fell to the ground, causing instant cries of concern to echo out from the crew.

Thankfully, Shanks stopped the car immediately. No harm, no foul, but it was damn close to disaster. However, again, if she had slipped or fallen she probably would have been stabbed for real.

Oh, I know. But as a child and even still a little bit now I love the idea of the ending. I am sort of with Danielle Harris in not completely knowing how well it would actually work for a Halloween movie to have Jamie as the killer, but I would have been interested to see them try. Pleasance was brilliant in that moment, as he always was. After all he had sacrificed…after all he had endured….

What made Pleasance so great was precisely this…. Which, come to think about it, is precisely why everything today sucks so royally….

Pleasance elevated these films to a level they could never have approached without him. The climax of Halloween 4 remains among his very finest moments.

It does look like he got ran over, but Billy did survive, him and Jamie are found by Dr. Loomis in the woods after the car crashes and Tina gets killed. I enjoyed H5 for what it is. I actually saw this before part 4 as a kid. I actually think I did too. I vaguely recall first encountering Jamie Lloyd as a character in a movie where Michael takes off his mask to show her his face.

Thanks for the comment. Othenin-Girard may be arrogant, and he may have made a decision or two I could have lived without. But all in all, Halloween 5 most closely reflects that tone and substance that set the original apart…. Whenever you have a variety of people working on a series of movies, some inconsistencies are pretty much inevitable. This director crafted a Halloween movie that actually proceeds like a Halloween movie.

It looks, feels, and sounds like a Halloween movie. I know this is a subjective matter, but I only find this to be true with 3 sequels in this series…. Personally, I found the original Halloween so compelling because of the classic triangular hunt…. Myers stalking victims, and Loomis stalking HIM. And all of this set against the backdrop of a conventional American harvest season.
