How does one delight in god

How do I enjoy the people I love, trust, believe in, admire, respect, and cherish? The answers—seven of them, to start with—offer a fleshed-out picture of what delighting in God looks like, not just as a word but as a way of life. I am intimately acquainted with the people I delight most in on this earth.

Delighting in God requires me to get to know Him well, too. He is immortal, invisible, and beyond full comprehension with my human, finite mind, but He IS knowable.

If knowledge of God is a fountain, time spent with Him is its widest input spring. If my husband and I—strangers to each other until the morning we met at church in our twenty-somethings—never spent time together, we would not know all there is to love and appreciate about each other. To spend time with God is to know Him, and to know Him is to enjoy Him.

I learned all this because I am interested in what my husband is interested in--because I am interested in him. If we are delighting in God, we will be interested in Him and in what interests Him. He is interested in worship, and although singing is only one form of it, we can offer our voices on pitch or not to Him.

He is interested in hospitality, so whether or not we consider this our area of giftedness full disclosure: I scored a zero in this area on my spiritual gifts assessment , we can look for tools and times to practice it. He is interested in the care of widows and orphans, so we can take opportunities to invest in those in our communities who have lost mates or parents.

Did you boisterously celebrate a long-awaited victory together? To experience deep, satisfying fellowship is a gift like no other. The same is true when it comes to delighting ourselves in the Lord.

To delight ourselves in the Lord, we must first know Him. God calls us to know Him for several reasons. First, He wants us to discover His many attributes that are so worthy of delight.

He also desires a relationship with us. The third reason God calls us to press on to know Him Hosea is because the exercise of seeking Him is profoundly important to the nurture of our souls. What state of mind do you think David is in when he declares his one desire? He knows that this one thing, above all else, will help him overcome the agony of desperation.

What does David hope to gain from his request? But the cares of this world and complacency can blind us to that truth. When we turn our eyes away from this world and fix them on Jesus, our delight in the Lord is assured. God promises that when we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. And when we find Him, His divine qualities, especially those that are manifest through Christ, will sweep us off our feet.

They failed—hard. They had lost touch with the source of their true delight. To unlock the mystery behind this powerful yet often misinterpreted promise, we must set aside every preconceived, humanistic notion—and with fresh eyes, let the Bible say exactly what it says.

This verse, in context and according to the original language means: When we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. How amazing is that! First, Seek Him —When believers face fiery trials, one silver lining usually appears right away.

As the flames get hotter, the first objects to disintegrate are the everyday obstacles that undermine our time with God. Not only that. God sent an angel—to touch him — twice.
